Private sector employment increased by 275,000 jobs from March to April according to the April ADP National Employment Report®. Most sectors reported significant increases with only natural resources/mining and information services showing minor declines.
Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP National Employment Report is produced by the ADP Research Institute® in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADP’s actual payroll data, measures the change in total non-farm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.
The report further elaborates job growth by company size and sector as shown below.
Company Size*
Small businesses: 77,000 (1-19 employees: 32,000, 20-49 employees: 45,000)
Medium businesses: 145,000 (50-499 employees: 145,000)
Large businesses: 53,000 (500-900 employees: 20,000, 1000+ employees: 33,000)
Sector*
Goods-producing: 52,000 (construction at 49,000, manufacturing at 5,000, with only natural resources/mining showing declines at -2,000.)
Service-providing: 223,000 (the biggest of which were Professional/business services at 59,000, Education & Health at 54,000, Leisure & Hospitality at 53,000, Trade/transportation/utilities at 37,000, Other services at 14,000, Financial Activities at 6,000 and Information services showing a decline at -1,000.)
Franchise Employment: 9,500 (Franchise jobs at 9,500.)
