More than 30% of Aussies find tax time stressful, while nearly 20% of them would prefer to clean up after their pooches than do their taxes. That means the guys and gals from Down Under hate doing taxes almost as much as Americans.
In a recently released study by Intuit QuickBooks only three in 10 Australians enjoy working on tax returns—"I'm betting those are paid tax preparers."
In fact, Australians would generally prefer to "go to the dentist," "sit in a middle seat on a long-haul flight," and even "visit with their unpleasant neighbors" in preference to doing their taxes.
The biggest reasons for their dread of tax preparation time—a lack of knowledge, understanding the correct process, a lack of organization (of tax related information) and a pure lack of motivation to do them.
Now, if those reasons don't exactly sound like US taxpayers, I don't know what does.
Australians who don't mind tax time are mostly made up (39%) of those "who let their accountant or tax consultant do everything for them."
So, when you combine stats, the nearly 40% having their taxes done by someone else and the 30% who enjoy working on taxes (that I'm betting are the accountants and tax preparers), they are the only ones not more afraid of tax returns than the dangerous outback of Aussie land.
Thanks to the QuickBooks Blog Australia for publishing the story I sculpted these facts, which turned out to be more humorous than they were already.
By the way, the same article cited the fact that nearly all Aussies (98%) found "laughter to be the best medicine during stressful tax time."
I find that funny, because I would have bet $100 that "the best medicine for tax time Down Under was a few Great Northern Brews."
