Independence is the condition where a person, a nation, a state or a country exercises self-government, autonomy and sovereignty over themselves. We here in these United State have our independence because the thirteen British colonies on the east coast issued the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 in which the Continental Congress declared that they were a 'new nation'. The actual vote of 'independence' from the British Empire was taken two days earlier by the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776.
But the reality is that we only have that independence because of those who fought and gave up their lives to gain our freedom and to maintain it ever since it was won. So while we celebrate our 'independence' we must remember that there is a price for freedom, for it is never free.
Many of you will take a long, well deserved vacation to celebrate the 4th-of-July, and will enjoy the festivities of this summer holiday with fireworks, parades, family gatherings, barbecues, picnics, baseball games, ceremonies, and political speeches at governmental monuments and cemeteries. Please salute in honor our flag as it is proudly raised remembering those who conceived that 'we the People' had the 'rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness' because we had the 'unalienable right that all men are created equal'.
True celebration is recognizing that as Americans we are indeed free to enjoy this tremendous land we live in and to pursue a life for ourselves by ambition and hard work, from sea to shining sea.
So, from all of us here at Insightful Accountant, have a Happy and Safe Independence Day Holiday.
