Over 16 years ago, I visited, a little unwilling, my first haunted house. I wasn't a child. We'll just say I was old enough to handle it. It was Ripley's Haunted Adventure in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was scary for me especially at the end, where I let my guard down a little too soon and the chainsaw man came after me! That did it for me! I had enough of anything haunted for a while, if not forever.
Fast forward to present day: I have a few friends that operate a local haunted attraction, Lake Hickory Haunts. This is not your run‐of‐the‐mill haunted attraction. It is set in the woods. It is the perfect place for a horror movie and has over 80 actors working to scare anyone who dare to enter. They have been talking to me over a couple of months about coming and what some of the other area haunted attractions are like. After all the talking, thinking and soul searching, I decided I would go. There were a lot of clowns, blood, screaming, chainsaws, you name it. I screamed quite a few times and pulled my husband behind me almost to the point of running sometimes. But I DID IT!!! I felt like it was quite an accomplishment for me personally.
How does all this relate to experience? Well it took me 16 years to have the guts to even attempt to enter another haunted attraction. The same is true for anything you are scared of. Whether it is something like starting your own business, running a marathon or taking a class at the local college after all those years, experience will help you accomplish all those things and much more. As we get older, we gain experience whether we realize it or not. It's important to remember that we learn a little something every day, sometimes without even realizing it. That is experience. Trust in it and it will take you places you have only dreamed of going
