The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs), which represents 11,500 members, is launching the Amy A. Pitter Presidential Scholarship to honor the legacy of its President and CEO, who will retire on Dec. 31, 2023.
Deputy CEO Zach Donah, CAE, says supporting the next generation of CPAs is critical to meeting the profession’s needs of building a robust and diverse talent pool. “From the start of her time at MassCPAs, Amy instinctively understood that the Society could be a vehicle to remove barriers to entry and inspire the next generation of CPAs.”
Pitter worked internally to connect that work to the Society’s strategic plan. Because of her vision and leadership, the Society has distributed more than $1,000,000 to support nearly 400 accounting students in Massachusetts. The scholarship will recognize her unwavering commitment to and passion for the accounting community.
The Society will award the $5,000 scholarship each year to a deserving undergraduate or graduate student pursuing an accounting degree in Massachusetts. Scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive application process by the Board of Directors of the Society’s Educational Foundation.
To qualify, students must have completed at least the first semester of their sophomore year; sustain a superior academic standing; have financial need; be willing to complete four hours of accounting-related community service; and intend to pursue a CPA career in Massachusetts.
Pitter joined MassCPAs in 2015 and was previously the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. On May 1, 2023, the Society announced that Pitter was retiring and Deputy CEO Zach Donah, CAE, would succeed her as President and CEO effective January 1, 2024.
MassCPAs’ Scholarship Program is funded by contributions to the Society’s Educational Foundation. The Foundation supports and inspires a diverse pipeline of future CPAs through a series of initiatives focused on financial support, college and career readiness programs and resources for high school and college students.
