I don't very often simply give you an introduction to another author's article and then point you to a URL in a different blog, we have other staffers here at Insightful Accountant to do that. But, on rare occasions I come across something that I find so compelling I just feel like I would be doing you, my readers, an injustice if I didn't pass along such a great article.
Yes, it is true that I read the Xero Blog, and recently I came across a post from Liz Mason who is one of the Xero National Ambassadors. She is also the CEO of High Rock Accounting. But the post Liz wrote wasn't about accounting, or Xero, or anything of that nature, in fact it was graphically illustrated "breathe" (as in take some deep breaths), and titled, "Self Care Tips Before Heading into Busy Season.1"
The emphasis of her post can be summarized in a sentence taken from near the end of her composition, "However you decide to spend the final months of the year, make sure to carve out time to focus on yourself."
It's easy to think of 'Busy Season' as those pre-end-of-year things that must be done in your practice, or the-start-of-next-tax-season, but equally the busy season are those events like Thanksgiving (and traveling 'over the river and through the woods', etc.), Black Friday, Christmas Shopping-Days Count-down, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the Mad-rush of Christmas Returns, Pre-New-Years-Eve, New Years Eve, etc., etc., etc. Heck, it's a 'Busy Season' just describing the 'Busy Season.'
So, I would encourage every one of you to make that first 'carve out' by taking time to read Liz's blog post in the Xero Blog. Even if you are a die-hard QuickBooks lover, it's not going to kill you to read the Xero Blog, I mean it hasn't killed me.
Oh yea, Happy Thanksgiving !
