There was a movie long ago with the headline "Be Afraid... be very afraid." If you keep your head about you these days, you only need to "Be Aware... be very aware."
That's because the 'scammers' are out in force, with Intuit, specifically QuickBooks users, being targeted to deceptively rob you of your credit card or bank information.
I know of two clients who, in the last week, received telephone calls from someone claiming to be Intuit QuickBooks advising them that their "XYZ product subscription had expired and that the credit card number they had on file was invalid, that it had expired."
In the last two or three weeks, I've had additional clients who received emails advising them that 'customer support' had been dropped from their subscription as a 'free included service' and that they would need to pay as much as $2800.00 (US) to restore support (including updates) for their QuickBooks version. Those clients received 'URL links' inside the email asking them to 'click here' to submit their credit card or bank information to restore customer support.
Just this morning, I received a text message from an unknown phone number advising that my QuickBooks subscription monthly payment for this month could not be processed due to an invalid (date expired) credit card.
After checking my QBO Online Subscription status, I determined that everything was fine for all five of my subscriptions. They all charged within the past week and show 'active' in my subscription, and the exact charges are shown in my online credit card ledger.
I then checked CAMPS.Intuit.com to ensure my QuickBooks Desktop ProAdvisor subscription was active, and it was.
Most inquiries like these are bogus. Avoid giving out your credit card or bank information via any link. Go directly to QBO Accountant to manage your (or your firm's) subscriptions for all online products, or camps.intuit.com to assist you in managing your desktop-based product subscriptions.
As with 'ocean surfing,' you must remain vigilant and safe when 'surfing the internet'... because there are hungry sharks out there.
