International ProAdvisors Apply HERE
Before 2024, International ProAdvisors were a category of the Top 100 ProAdvisors and represented from 10 to 20 percent of the awards authorized. That percentage changed over the years as the number of ProAdvisors worldwide increased.
When Insightful Accountant implemented the Top 50 International ProAdvisor Awards in 2024, we needed a mechanism to allocate the number of ProAdvisors recognized from the two geographic hemispheres (Western, excluding the US, and Eastern). Because participation changes yearly (for various reasons), we decided not to allocate a fixed number or percentage of the 50 positions to each hemisphere.
Instead, we created a rule that allocates the number of positions within the Top 50 to the same percentage of qualified ProAdvisors as the relative percentage of qualified ProAdvisors who apply from each hemisphere.
Let’s assume we have 1000 ProAdvisor participants applying for the International Awards; of the 1000, 600 are qualified by meeting the minimum requirements. Those 600 ProAdvisors will first be categorized by their geographic hemisphere.
Let’s assume that 60% of the 600 Qualified ProAdvisors are from the Eastern Hemisphere and 40% are from the Western Hemisphere. This means that 60% of the Top 50 ProAdvisors will be the highest-scoring and ranked individuals from the Eastern Hemisphere, and 40% of the Top 50 ProAdvisors will be the highest-scoring and ranked individuals from the Western.
In other words, the Top 50 will comprise the 30 highest-ranked ProAdvisors from the Eastern Hemisphere and the 20 highest-ranked ProAdvisors from the Western Hemisphere.
By the way, if you are wondering about the qualifying 'minimum requirements' for International ProAdvisors you should review this article.
But there is one caveat to this rule. “Neither hemisphere will be represented by less than 20 ProAdvisors in the list of 50 unless the number of qualified and ranked ProAdvisors from that hemisphere is less than 20.” We implemented these provisions because, before the Top 50, there were a minimum of 20 International ProAdvisors representing the world as a whole.
So Murph, “Why are you telling us this?”
Competition and numbers; it’s just that plain and simple.
In a sense, the two hemispheres are competing with one another to see which hemisphere can have the greater number of ‘qualified’ ProAdvisors apply for the Top 50 International ProAdvisor Awards. The more qualified applicants from your hemisphere, the higher the percentage of ProAdvisors from your hemisphere will be in the Top 50 list. Indirectly, it also increases the odds that the ‘ProAdvisor of the Year’ will come from the hemisphere with the greater number of ProAdvisors.
This is one reason you will see that Insightful Accountant is pushing ‘nominating an International ProAdvisor.’
The International Awards, or at least the reality that there are more than just a few spots for International ProAdvisors, is relatively new. Some International ProAdvisors are somewhat dubious about ‘applying directly’ (self-nominating) for the awards. So, if you know a qualified ProAdvisor you work with, or who is ‘one of your mates,’ and who may be too self-conscious to apply, nominating them is really beneficial because you are increasing the odds for your hemisphere.
The truth is, Insightful Accountant wants every qualified ProAdvisor ‘on the planet’ to either be nominated or apply directly for these awards.
