It's not too late, you can still 'apply' for the 2025 ProAdvisor Awards. See below.
This past November, I wrote a Top ProAdvisor Tuesday feature titled "More About the Top ProAdvisor Awards Process." In that article, I outlined the formal side of the 'attributes' of a ProAdvisor as objectively defined and measured by standards for each award category.
While we objectively measure a ProAdvisor's standing or reputation within the profession based on the characteristics of formal education, professional credentials or accreditation(s), and participation, membership, or recognition within professional associations and organizations, there is a lot more to it than that.
"It is only by contemplating examples of perfection can we achieve perfection." (Plato)
What I didn't talk about was the subjective aspects of the awards process and how those things we can't measure achieve recognition through the 'peer' voting process. While it might seem to some that voting is more of a 'popularity contest,' we can only hope that the limitation of 'one ballot' per voter precludes popular-candidate ballot-box-stuffing.
I honestly believe that the best comes out in all our ProAdvisors voting, and in so doing, they reflect upon those subjective qualities of the ProAdvisor(s) for whom they cast a vote. I see votes cast for the best of the best and the bright, talented, and up-n-coming within the community. In other words, those ProAdvisors who have reached the highest professional statures.
If you wonder what past ProAdvisors of the Year have had in common to reach the pinnacle of the "best of the best" within the ProAdvisor community, it is their professional stature before earning the award. It's the subjective things that we can not measure that are deep-seated within them and drive underlying qualities that turn into measurable values.
Professional stature includes the ability to model selflessness; an individual must be authentic and humble. Their influence comes from others wanting to follow them, not positioning themselves 'out front' to appear as being followed. It's like rushing to the door of your favorite restaurant so you can open that door for others headed to it, not rushing to the door so you can get in front of those headed inside.
Professional stature is built upon servanthood. This involves listening to those around you, not demanding they listen to you. Being willing to accept that someone else might have a 'better' idea than you, even if you are the one in charge with supposedly "all the ideas."
Professional stature also requires sacrifice. This involves sacrificing time, control, pretenses, and, most of all, ego. If you are focused on your ego, you can never truly 'serve' others. Only by relinquishing self-ego can you sacrifice and serve others in ways that will bring forth their professional stature, as well as your own.
Remember, "Professional stature is what puts the 'Pro' in ProAdvisor." And it has genuinely been modeled in every ProAdvisor of the Year since the award's inception.
