This Top 100 2024 Clues article will examine the QuickBooks Desktop ProAdvisor Certification available to domestic applicants. A future article regarding international applicant certifications is forthcoming.
Intuit's QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program administers all QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certifications. To note, they may be subject to change at any time between now and the 2024 official Top 100 application form next spring.
Definitions:
- Top 100 Awards Process – the procedures and process whereby Insightful Accountant's ProAdvisor of the Year, Top 100 ProAdvisors, the ProAdvisor Categorical Awards, and the Top Up-N-Coming ProAdvisors are selected and recognized.
- Minimum certification requirement – to participate in the Top 100 Awards Process, nominees from the US must hold one or more current Intuit US ProAdvisor (Online or Desktop) certifications.
- Recognized Intuit US ProAdvisor Certifications meeting the minimum requirement – based upon current Intuit certification offerings, Insightful Accountant recognizes only QuickBooks Online Certification, QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification and QuickBooks Desktop Certification.
- Intuit US ProAdvisor Certifications "not" meeting the minimum requirement – the following QuickBooks ProAdvisor ancillary certifications, while recommended as part of total certification ranking, do not meet the minimum requirements: QuickBooks Online Payroll Certification, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Certification and QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 19.0 Certification. Insightful Accountant awards points as part of the Top 100 Awards process for these certifications on both a current and historical basis if an applicant has reported a current certification for any of the recognized Intuit US ProAdvisor Certifications meeting the minimum requirement.
QuickBooks Desktop Certification - 2023
The QuickBooks Desktop Certification – 2023 acknowledges your expertise in the essential processes and functions needed to support clients using QuickBooks Desktop, including the newest features available in QuickBooks Desktop 2023.
QuickBooks Desktop 2023 certification may be obtained initially or by ProAdvisors who have not been certified in QuickBooks Desktop for both 2021 and 2022 by completing the 11-module, 19.5 hour (estimated), 22 CPE credit training pathway before taking the certification examination.

ProAdvisors who were certified in QuickBooks Desktop for both 2021 and 2022 may obtain recertification through the single module, 1.5 hour (approximate), 4 CPE credit, "What's New in QuickBooks Desktop 2023 – Recertification" pathway to the examination.

Whether ProAdvisors take the full certification exam or they are eligible to take the recertification exam, each exam requires a score of 80% or higher to pass. Test-takers only have three attempts to pass either examination.
For those eligible, an alternative pathway for the full certification or recertification exam is to go directly to the examination. Seasoned veterans in the use of QuickBooks Desktop may be able to pass the appropriate exam in this manner. However, be aware you will not receive a certificate of completion of the training content (hours and CPEs) that earn points in the Top 100 process when only taking the examination.
As with other ProAdvisor Certifications, it is essential for ProAdvisors participating in the Top 100 process to understand the term current regarding certification because the Insightful Accountant definition of current may be different from Intuit's definition regarding certification and recertification.
For the Top 100 process, current concerning QuickBooks Desktop certification is considered to be the newest year's certification available on or after the beginning of the year preceding the Awards Year (unless otherwise set by Insightful Accountant within the official Application form).
Current certification also will be considered any newer year's certification available on or after the beginning of the Awards Year.
As of the date of this publication, concerning the Top 100 process 2024 Awards Year, QuickBooks Desktop 2023 ProAdvisor (first-time or recertification) Certification on or after Jan. 1, 2203, will be considered current.
If and when Intuit issues a QuickBooks Desktop 2024 ProAdvisor (first-time or recertification) Certification offering, such certification will also be considered current for the Top 100 process 2024 Awards Year, regardless of the date of issuance.
In such an event, either the QuickBooks Desktop 2023 ProAdvisor or QuickBooks Desktop 2024 ProAdvisor certifications shall be current, and only one (not both) of such certifications shall meet the minimum requirement for participation.
Regarding the stats from our 2023 domestic applicants reporting their most current dates for QuickBooks Desktop certification (or recertification):
