If you weren't at this year's SNH Tax Tour, here's the short version: the tools have gotten better, the pricing has gotten sharper, and one technology stack in particular was the favorite among participants.
For those unfamiliar, the Tax Tour is a curated showcase of tools built specifically for tax practitioners. These vendors are specifically chosen by practitioners, not a pay to play display by the vendors themselves. The top 10 tools every year are chosen by people who understand the realities of a busy season, an IRS notice landing in the wrong inbox, and the relentless pressure to do more with the same hours. Here's what was in the room this year.
Tax Now: Get Ahead of IRS Notices — Before Your Client Does
Anyone who has fielded a panicked client call about an IRS notice they've already had for two weeks knows exactly what Tax Now is solving. The platform provides transcript monitoring and real-time alerts, giving practitioners a 2.5-week head start before a notice reaches the client. That window is everything — it's the difference between a proactive phone call and a reactive scramble.
The tool also offers collaborative multi-year dashboards, estimate tracking, and — notably — no requirement to log into the IRS to use it. Pricing is $10–$20 per taxpayer per year, and there's a penalty back product included. For firms that want to lead with proactive service, this is straightforward infrastructure.
Tax Rep Network: IRS Resolution, Simplified for Your Whole Team
IRS enforcement is up, and that's creating real demand for resolution services. The Tax Rep Network, led by Eric Green, is built to help firms serve those clients — even if they don't have an EA or CPA on staff. The platform is particularly well-suited for bookkeepers looking to add resolution support through a structured program.
New this year: an Eric Green AI agent, a vault, updated toolbars, and live webinars. If you've been curious, there's a 30-day free trial to get started.
Remitian: Tax Payment Automation With an Audit Trail
Remitian is the new kid on the block and handles the unglamorous, but critical, work of tax payment logistics. It's a single portal covering both business and personal payments, with clients able to log in, review their payment details, and approve before funds move. Amounts can be edited and adjusted right up to the payment date, and automated reminders go out to clients to keep things on track.
The audit trail is the feature that accountants tend to appreciate most. Pricing is a flat fee of $3000 to start, plus a per-transaction fee that can be passed on to the client — straightforward enough that it's easy to build into your service model.
Protection+: Firm-Level Coverage When Things Go Sideways
Protection+ is in a category of its own: the company will spend up to $1 million resolving tax client issues — letters, notices, audits — and claims there's no close competitor. Starting this year they're also adding a tax advisory monitoring process to their offering.
Pricing is $15 per 1040 and $75 per business return, with advisory tiers available. The magic link to sign a 2848 directly caught attention in the room. This is firm-level protection, and the economics are worth running.
Grant Worx: Automating the Data Entry Out of 1040 Prep
Grant Worx goes after one of the most time-consuming parts of individual return prep: document collection and data entry. Upload client documents and Grant Worx organizes them, verifies them, and auto-imports the data into the return — going well beyond simple scan technology.
Pricing is $28–$40 per return on a pay-as-you-go basis (currently in testing), with a prepaid option available. For high-volume individual return shops, this is the kind of tool that changes the math on per-return profitability.
RC Reports: Defend Your S-Corp Reasonable Comp — Confidently
Reasonable compensation is one of the highest-risk planning areas in S-corp work, and RC Reports has built the most rigorous benchmarking tool available to practitioners. Reports are backed by IRS criteria with a stated 90% confidence level, sourced from the largest proprietary wage database in the industry.
The practical use case is straightforward: pass the cost on to the client or fold it into a 1120 package. Either way, the language and documentation is built in. Pricing is $1,800 per year for up to 10 clients — and the math tends to work out at 3–5x cost recovery per client. Use discount code SECRET35 for a discount off the first year.
Frost Law: When You Need a Tax Attorney in Your Corner
Not every IRS problem gets solved with a phone call or a transcript transcript pull. Frost Law handles the hard stuff: misapplied payroll, six-figure-plus installment agreements, credit collection issues. Their attorneys bill at $350–$450 per hour on a case-by-case basis, and they've built a reputation for getting out in front of problems rather than waiting for them to escalate. Worth having in your referral network.
Stanford Tax: The Smarter Organizer Your Clients Will Actually Use
Stanford Tax tackles one of the persistent pain points of tax prep: getting complete, organized information from clients. This one was a fan favorite for the second year in a row, especially when paired with the Juno + Proconnect stack. The platform creates a personalized organizer that guides each client through exactly what they need to provide — no more, no less — with automated reminders until it's done.
On the back end, Stanford Tax integrates with your tax software checklists, creates a workpaper, reorders and renames documents, and includes built-in tick-and-tie features. The Karbon connection is a notable integration for firms running that practice management stack. Pricing is $18 per return with no minimum and no expiration — arguably the lowest barrier to entry of anything in the room, not to mention one of the biggest time savers.
Juno: The Fan Favorite — and for Good Reason
If the Tax Tour had a crowd vote, Juno won it. The platform pulls extra data from client documents and pre-populates it into the return with up to 95% accuracy — K-1s, Schedule C, E, F, brokerage data, retirement contributions. It handles more document types than SurePrep, including multi-state K-1s, and it's simpler to use.
The confidence score feature is the sleeper hit: Juno gives you a visibility metric on how reliably each return has been populated, which matters both for quality control and for advisory conversations. The review features are built with that advisory lens in mind.
TaxDome users get a particularly clean workflow: documents pushed from TaxDome flow into Juno, get mapped directly to the correct client's return in your tax software, and by the time the client finishes uploading, you have a drafted return waiting. It covers 1120, 1120S, and 1065s.
Pricing is $40 per return with a 100-return minimum, supporting all three major entity types.
The Stack That Stole the Show: Stanford Tax + Juno + ProConnect
Individual tools are useful. But the conversation that generated the most energy this year was about how Stanford Tax, Juno, and ProConnect work together as a connected stack — and what that means for the economics and experience of a tax practice.
Here's how it flows: Stanford Tax handles the front end — the personalized organizer, automated client follow-up, document collection, and workpaper creation. Juno takes those documents, extracts the data, and pre-populates the return with up to 95% accuracy, giving you a confidence score and a nearly-complete drafted return. ProConnect is the destination — a cloud-native tax platform that absorbs that pre-populated data and takes you the rest of the way.
What you end up with is a materially different workflow: less time chasing documents, less time on data entry, and more time on the review and advisory work that actually commands a premium. The individual tools are impressive on their own. Together, they represent a coherent answer to the question practitioners have been asking for years: how do we do this at scale without sacrificing quality?
ProConnect wasn't in the room this year, but its role in the stack was impossible to ignore. If you're evaluating your tech for next season, this combination is worth a serious look.
The Takeaway
What stands out about this year's Tax Tour isn't any single tool — it's the overall maturity of the ecosystem. The products are more integrated, more specifically designed for practitioner workflows, and more transparent about pricing than they were even a few years ago. The days of expensive, opaque enterprise software as the only option are over.
Whether you're looking to reduce IRS phone time, automate document collection, protect clients from audit exposure, or build a return prep workflow that actually scales — there's a purpose-built solution for it. The ones above are worth your attention.
