This is way, way cool. First, I want to express my strong opinion about invoices and statements:
- They should be easy to Read – the less clutter and unnecessary information, the better
- They should be a good representation of your business – which means it includes a “logo” and the colors of your business
- Easy to pay with Online options – QBO merchant services is a must (This is one of the first things I turn on for clients)
So what did INTUIT do to get my stamp of approval?
- In QBO, they improved the look of Statements by passing the customized Master Invoice settings onto statements. So statements have the same customized appearance as the Master customized Invoice.
- In the QBO iOS App, you can customize the appearance of Invoices.
Let me show you the two areas of improvement:
Improved look of QBO Statements
This is a pass through feature, so you must customize the Master Invoice if you want to customize the statement.
1. To customize the Master Invoice, you need to access it by going to the Company Gear Icon and choosing Custom Form Styles

3. To view all the customizable areas of the Master Invoice, click through the various top tabs: Design, Content, Email and Payments. Within the Content tab, there are three editable areas. Make sure you explore them all.

4. After you have completed customizing your Master Invoice, Save your changes; now go look at the pass-through edits on your Statements
5. To View Statement, go to Quick Create and choose Statements from the Other List

6. I recommend selecting the various Statement options and previewing your statements before sending them, since there are additional Statement options:
- Choose Statement "Type," which includes Balance forward, Open Item and Transactional Statement
- Decide what detail to include in the Customer Balance Status; All, Open or Overdue

7. Now that Statements are ready to send with the updated look, you can email a batch by selecting all checkmarks next to each customer and choosing Save and Send

If Android users are lucky enough to get this new functionality, I'll let you know when it's available.
By the way, if you're using a QBO App, remember to get the app updates as they become available to take advantage of the improvements they provide, whether it's Invoices and Statements or any other little goodies Intuit provides.
