It might be said of Intuit, “never let a Holiday weekend roll around without a desktop product release update…” and that wouldn’t be far off. This Memorial Day weekend Intuit began rolling out Maintenance Release 7 (R7) for the QuickBooks 2020 Desktop Product-line. "I didn't bother to 'bother you over the holiday weekend because I figured you were too busy eating hamburgers and hot dogs, visiting the beaches, lakes and swimming pools, and otherwise observing the holiday to worry about a 'QuickBooks release'!"
The changes, improvements and fixes elaborated below were included in this release for QuickBooks Pro 2020, QuickBooks Premier 2020, QuickBooks Accountant 2020 and QuickBooks Enterprise v20.0. Be aware that each new update also includes all the changes from earlier updates. If you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will download the updates for you and prompt you to install it. You can manually download the update from the Official Intuit QuickBooks Downloads and Updates Webpage (product/version specific) which became available on 5/22/2020.
Release 7 (R7) - May 2020
What’s probably most significant is the next step in what I see as the evolution of a change that was made in Release 6 (R6) from March, 2020 which introduced a new requirement in which “the QuickBooks Company Admin is now required to log into their ‘Intuit account’ when either creating a new Company file, or opening an existing file.” I will address this more in my ‘Note’ about the specific change below related to this.
The changes, improvements and fixes elaborated below were included in this release:
Merchant Services
- A 'new' checkbox appears when saving customer credit cards that now requires merchants to explicitly agree that they have a signed consent on file from their customers.
Subscription Plan Being Offered
- Multi-users companies that want to switch to a subscription plan can now do so within the product.
TSheets
- Users with External Accountant role can now use and sync TSheets.
User Management
- Admin Users in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions can now invite other employees (QuickBooks Users) to create an Intuit account.
Note: As I mentioned above, this has to do with the change imposed in Release 6 (R6). With this change in Release 7 (R7) in which other employees (QuickBooks Users) will be invited to create an Intuit account” it seems to be increasingly obvious that Intuit is taking the End User License Agreement (EULA) for QuickBooks Desktop which defines the relationship of licenses to users much more serious. They appear to be initiating a process whereby QuickBooks Users are not only ‘created within the software’ but are now going to be ‘registered with Intuit’ by virtue of having an account established that associates them with a specific software license and company file. I am all in favor of EULA compliance, but I simply wish they would come out and say that they intend to 'register every user' of the software, or otherwise explain why every user needs an 'Intuit Account'.
Batch Delete
- Users are now able to 'batch delete' un-linked Sales Orders similar to the 'batch delete' for Invoices, Bills, and Checks
CRM Connector
- Enterprise Diamond now has an integrated CRM connector
Alternate Vendors Reports
- Users can now get detail of Alternate Vendors for inventory items on the Inventory Stock Status Report by Item and Inventory Valuation Summary
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close unexpected after an old (prior to 2005) file was upgraded to 2020.
- Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close unexpectedly when emailing Payment Receipts using QuickBooks Email method(s)
- Fixed an issue where QuickBooks passed incorrect cents amount for L3 items when processing a credit card transaction
- Fixed an issue where Users were getting the "Payroll Activation" screen when accessing the Invite Page
- Fixed an issue that would allow Non-Admin Users access to the Merchant Service Deposits screen
- Fixed an issue that caused an incorrect online payment balance to show for pay enabled Invoices modified by 3rd Party applications
Should You Update?
Well, this is always a question, if you have experienced any of these problems then you may want to go ahead and install this update; otherwise you may want to hold off a week or so to see if any adverse findings are reported. Remember if you are not interested in these updates then you need to make certain that 'Auto-updates' have been turned-off inside QuickBooks.
