You can almost always determine the 'severity' of a QuickBooks Desktop problem when you call ProAdvisor Support and while waiting on hold for the first automated attendant to do it's thing you hear a message that says something like... "If you are calling about a this-that-or-other problem when using QuickBooks Desktop go to Intuit.me/XYZ."
Recently while calling Support in regard to a client's 'license issue' I heard such a message about, "If you are unable to send emails from QuickBooks Desktop using Outlook Desktop after a recent update... go to."
The go-to points you to a QuickBooks Help site that then points you to a Microsoft Help site. So, I thought, "if this is such a common issue that Intuit has put a 'while you are waiting for help message' on their ProAdvisor help line, I should probably address the most recent iteration of this problem", having previously written about other causes for the same thing.
It seems with update Build 17328.20068 to Office Version 2024, or higher, many QuickBooks Desktop users are (or were) unable to send emails. In addressing how to resolve the problem, the first remark Microsoft makes is "you're invited to try Microsoft 365 (on-line) for free." Of course, we all know that QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Office 365 (online) don't play well together.
But the error we are talking about is when you are attempting to send emails from inside QuickBooks Desktop, for example, while attempting to transmit an Invoice. In these cases, you may experience an error like the one shown below:

Microsoft became aware of this problem and has supposedly 'fixed' it with another 'Build' update within the last couple of weeks; however, not everyone is on the build update that resolves the problem. Some people stop auto-updates when they encounter a problem for fear that they might continue to exacerbate the cause.
While Microsoft offered a fix in one of their Beta Channel releases, and then Current Channel Preview releases, the long term fix was scheduled to go into their Current Channel builds 17531.20000+. This was scheduled for release by not later than April 16, 2024.
Be aware, the following impacts only those Microsoft Office Outlook (Desktop) users with QuickBooks Desktop, and only those where the inability to send emails resulted from update of MS Office Outlook Desktop to Version 2402. If you had issues prior to Version 2402, then the following may not be your solution.
With the release of the most recent builds (enumerated above) Microsoft indicates that "the fix" is now available, but some users may not have updates enabled. In such case, to install the most recent update, select File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now. If you don't see the fix working immediately, please reboot your computer (you might even need to reboot twice).
Microsoft believes that the most recent release should resolve the problem. So, if you have had auto-updates turned off prior to (and since) April 16th, 2024, you should re-enable updates by selecting File > Office Account > Update Options > Enable Updates.
Then, keep your fingers crossed that the most recent update is truly the right solution and resolves your problem.
