QuickBooks "Live Experts" May Not Be So Bad

On April 24^th, Intuit presented a QuickBooks Live Strategy Session (live webinar) hosted by Ted Callahan, Intuit's Accountant Partnership Director. The webinar featured presentations by Cassie Divine, SVP of Intuit's Small Business Segment Operations and Partner Ecosystem, and Itai Jeczmien, the VP of the QuickBooks Live operation.

From just a glance of the numerous 'chat' comments, I would say that a clear majority seemed very negative ranging from "Why are you doing this to us?", to "This will directly compete with our services."

I found myself wondering, why Intuit didn't think to offer this service as part of the ProAdvisor Discounted Services, an Add-on to existing client subscriptions. It seems that we could have a lot of time-consuming routine questions from our clients ...

QBO Live

I think this is a great idea if they don't try to bring the client into their fold and instead recommend that the client work with one of their certified Accounting Partners. The last thing we need is more competition driving our value down. If QBO serves the client at less than we do, then they are driving our value to the ground.

Great article Murph. I think we need to wait and see how this all plays out. My comment on the chat was “Everything they want to do is what I do in the initial training”.
I love teaching. When published in a magazine years ago, I was asked why I do what I do. My answer was and still is today, “I want my clients to know and understand their “books” as well as their accountant. I want them to feel confident that they can do this and therefore feel good about themselves,”
To accomplish that, I taught them how to use QuickBooks by working with their current books. It was not a how to class. We jump right in and do the daily tasks. I train as I go. What questions come up, I answer. Because I do train them in their books, they learn more and faster than if I would just answer question after question. It is hands on for them from the start.
I’ve done this for 30 years and it has been a successful method.
I do feel that this might cause confusion for the client and also be overwhelming.
They need to implement what they learn as they learn.
I also feel that if Intuit is going to use Glance or any method, they are definitely “in the books.”
I would love nothing more to sit in on a couple of these sessions and see how it works. I feel we’re in the dark when we aren’t able to be apart of this.
As far as the chat, the comments to find another accounting system isn’t the answer. QuickBooks solutions are the best out there mainly because it is all encompassing! It can do just about anything. I love the new invoice. They’ve changed the “Category” setup back to what it was. I think they are trying to listen. While I feel some of their constant changing is a little much, it is still the best software out there and I’ll stick with it.
