Finally a contest I can really sink my teeth into, "Joe's Hot Sauce Challenge". I just want all of you to know that despite volunteering, I didn't receive a single bite of 'King Cake' in his last challenge.
But when it comes to 'hot sauce' there is no topping the 'extremes' I will go to, and two things I know 'spicy' is the 'spice of life' and there is no place better to 'spice up your life' than NOLA.
Murph's NOLA 'Spice up your 'Bloody Mary' (or Virgin Mary) Recipe:
1-1/2 tspn Tobasco brand (traditional) Pepper Sauce
1-1/2 tspn Tobasco brand (Green Pepper) Sauce
1-1/2 tspn Tobasco brand (Habanero) Sauce
1-1/2 tspn Sriracha Sauce (use only Huy Fong Foods brand, the real thing)
1-1/2 tspn Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
1-1/2 tspn fresh squeezed lemon juice
1-1/2 tspn fresh squeezed lime juice
1-1/2 tspn Zatarain's Creole Mustard
1 tblspn prepared horseradish
1/2 tspn freshly ground black pepper
1 cup Vodka (omit for your virgin lovers) - "the best you can afford"
3 cups tomato juice
Combine all ingredients in pitcher, stir briskly to mix. Refrigerate until well chilled. Stir briskly once more before serving over ice with a skewer of pickled okra and cocktail onion (or even better a cajun-bbq shrimp and pickled green bean) garnish. Divide evenly among 4 (10oz) glasses. Oh my gosh, it's devilishly delightful. (PS - Virgin lovers expect about 7 oz per glass.)
Goes well with Oysters-on-the-half-shell for early breakfast or midnight after-party.
Can't mix your own, well in NOLA look for your 'fever blasting hot Bloody Mary at on of these great establishments:
Dante's Kitchen (736 Dante Street) NOLA
Cafe Atchafalaya (901 Louisiana Ave) NOLA
Cafe Adelaide's Swizzle Stick Bar (300 Poydras Street) NOLA
the legendary, Pat O'Briens (718 St. Peter Street) NOLA, and
Molly's at the Market (1107 Decatur Street) NOLA
.
I will be holding an open chair, just for you, "see ya there, my darlins..."

PS - I don't qualify to win Joe's challenge, so you all feel free to enter the contest, ya hear.
