On Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM Eastern time Norman Axelman is back for the second of his new (2021) set of ‘Excel Webinars’ with a webinar titled, Introduction to Excel Features and Formulas. During this webinar, Norman will help you discover a range of skills and techniques that will become standard components of your everyday use of Excel because he teaches using real-world examples, and practical problems that we all encounter in our daily work.
This 60-minutes is packed with essential features and formulas that every Excel users 'needs to know'... these are not just basics, but tools that can shrink the time you spend on work by hours. You will learn enough in this webinar alone to save you countless hours in the work you do using Excel and you will be amazed that it all comes via a few simple features and understanding how Excel really functions. So let's spend a few minutes looking at just a few of these things I am talking about.
One of my favorite Excel features that you will learn in Norman's upcoming webinar is Text to Columns. You can find Text to Columns within the Data tab of Excel under Data Tools as shown here... and Norman will be teaching this very beneficial feature. You can also access this wizard using the Excel keyboard shortcut of ALT + A + E.
When you select this icon it opens the Text to Columns wizard which has 3 steps. The wizard takes you through easy-to-follow steps before splitting the text into columns...but Norman teaching you 'the why as well as the how' of using this feature. And believe me, this feature can be so beneficial if you want to split (combined first and last) names in a single column into separated First Name and Last Names for example, or convert invalid date formats into valid date formats,or extract a set of characters, or so many more uses. This function serves as a starting point for many other functions you can perform in Excel, and Norman is going to teach you 'all about it.'
Another great Excel feature Norman is going to teach is 'Concatenation'. You use the Concatenate function in Excel to join (or string) together information in more than one cell.
In the example above the data from the Month and Sales columns have been concatenated together so that the information is displayed in a single cell. While there are other ways to accomplish the same thing in Excel, which Norman will also be covering in this (and future webinars), concatenation is one of the simplest methods and most beneficial for day-to-day use.
And if you think that's magical, then wait till you see Norman present 'Flash Fill' which is one of my all time favorite Excel functions. I remember when I first found this feature... I was so excited, then a few weeks later I actually saw Norman present it and I thought to myself how lucky I was that I already knew about it, because so many people watching his presentation had never seen it before. Flash Fill automatically fills your data when it senses a pattern. For example, you can use Flash Fill to separate first and last names from a single column, or combine first and last names from two different columns.
For example, column A in the example below contains first names and column B has last names. You want to fill column C with first and last names combined.
If you establish a pattern by typing the full name in column C, the Excel Flash Fill feature will fill in the rest based on that pattern. I can't tell you how beneficial this feature has been to me... and you will absolutely love it once Norman shows you all the potential uses you can make of it in your everyday work lives.
There are plenty more features, functions and formulas that Norman will cover during the hour he spends with you on June 10th. You won't regret attending, absolutely nobody that ever attends one of Norman's webinars ever does. It doesn't matter if they are new to Excel, have been using it for years, have never attended an Excel class before, or have attended webinar after webinar, they all learn something new, exciting and beneficial when Norman is at the helm. And Norman doesn't just teach theory, he always teaches real-world examples, based upon his more than 25+ years of experience, so that the instruction you get will be based upon meaningful data to you, and so that you can use the lessons you learn the moment you get back to your workplace.
