QBPA 2012 Sunset

Each year in July, about 18 to 20 months following issuance, ProAdvisor certifications sunset. and this year is no exception. The QuickBooks 2012 Certification, examination, training and course materials will no longer be available on the ProAdvisor Member website or in the Certification Course Locker after Midnight, Pacific Time on July 15, 2013.

So you have one month left; if you are planning to start or finish the 2012 certification, you must 'complete' the exam before the deadline. Make certain to allow yourself plenty of time to study and pass the examination before July 15, 2013 at Midnight (Pacific time).

Why not just get certified in QB 2013?

I am new to this type of certification. Why is it important to get certified in QB2012 when QB2013 is most current version?

Why certify in QB-2012...a couple of reasons.

Thanks for your comment and inquiry.

First, each product has a few differences and while many of those carry-over from one year to the next, many do not. Case-in-point, the QB 2013 product line looks (and to some extent feels) entirely different than any version of QuickBooks prior to it, this is because Intuit invested thousands of man-hours to completely re-vamp the User Interface, it is more 'visual based' then traditional 'windows boxes'. So QB 2012 is the last of the 'older user interface' and the location of features are in entirely different places (many accessed from the menu bar rather than the new transaction based configuration). So while both the what it looks like and the how to use it differ from these two versions. If you get called to support a QB-2012 or older client, you want to be 'skilled' in using that product as well as the newer 2013 product line.

The 2nd big reason to get certified in 2012 is looking down the road toward 'Advanced' Certification. You must have the most current 3 years of QB certifications in order to 'qualify' to take the Advanced examination. So if you fail to complete 2012, then that means it will be sometime in 2015 before you would qualify, but it you pass 2012 before it sunsets, you could be sitting for the Advanced Exam by sometime next year.

So you still have 10 or so days left to study and pass the 2012 exam........ "Good Luck", and thanks for being "an Intuitive Accountant" reader.
