Intuit has officially dropped the QuickBooks Point-of-Sale powered by Revel product from its sales and marketing. Revel will no longer be marketed under the QuickBooks brand.
Intuit has advised its Resellers Program members to "remove any QuickBooks branding associated with Revel" from websites and marketing materials.
In October 2014, Intuit and Revel Systems launched a partnership to co-market and sell Revel Point-of-Sale software under the QuickBooks brand. Since then, the businesses have created best-in-class product integrations.
Over the years, Revel has shifted its focus to serve mid-market and enterprise-level customers, while Intuit remains committed to small businesses. Some of these – especially brick-and-mortar retailers with complex inventory needs – require a POS solution, and so Intuit actively is evaluating its future strategy in this space.
As part of these changes, Intuit's internal sales will no longer sell Revel, but it will qualify and refer leads to Revel-certified Resellers.
Revel-certified Resellers can continue to sell Revel, but it must be marketed exclusively as being a "product of Revel." It can not be co-branded with QuickBooks. However, resellers may also sell QBO and QuickBooks Payments as part of any sale. For the time being, there will be no change to IRP compensation, revenue credits, rebates and co-op arrangements.
Despite these changes, QuickBooks product integrations with Revel, including QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Payments and payroll, will remain intact and supported.
Intuit recognizes that many SMBs are seeking a cloud POS solution, and Intuit actively is evaluating how to serve these customers moving forward. But for now, the Point-of-Sale focus for Intuit will be on QuickBooks Point-of-Sale (Desktop) v12, especially for those businesses with complex inventory and payments needs for whom a desktop product, even with multi-store capabilities, is appropriate.
Intuit emphasized that, "The partnership (with Revel) will continue, but in a new form, with product integrations and customer support intact. The change primarily affects internal sales and marketing."
Intuit's stated goal in this matter is, "to ensure a smooth transition, so existing customers don't notice any change."
