I don't want it to sound like we are bragging, but when I recently took the QuickBooks Online Re-certification Preparation Webinar, I realized that there was a lot of information in the presented content that we had covered right here at Insightful Accountant. This article is intended as a simple guide with easy links to the related articles.
The Re-certification Exam (and preparation webinar/course) is divided into 2 Modules. The first module covers Your QuickBooks Online Accountant, including the Practice Management features of QBO-A.
The QBO-A Practice Management feature is just a little more than a year old in terms of general release into the product, but Insightful Accountant covered Practice Manager back on March 29, 2017:
Intuit Announces New Practice Management for QBOA
Then on May 1st, Liz Scott, our contributing author who writes most of our QBO Monday Minute features, described how to use Practice Management in detail:
Using QBO Accountant Practice Management
One of the feature areas of QBO-A emphasized in the re-certification training was on customization of the various practice manager views. Once again, Liz covered this in her article of April 15, 2018:
QBOA Dashboard Client Column Settings
There is a big emphasis on the ability to use the practice management feature for all your clients, not just QBO clients. Insightful Accountant was one of the first to alert you of this new feature back on March 21, when I wrote:
QBO-Accountant can now organize Non-QuickBooks Clients
And of course we covered the QBO-A integration with ProConnect Tax Online way back in October of 2016:
QBO-Accountant Integration with ProConnect Tax Online
Another area of emphasis regarding QBO-A in the training I took was on Projects and Tasks. Back in July of 2017, Liz told you all about the (then QBO Labs) feature of Projects:
QBO Projects from QuickBooks Labs
And lucky me, last fall at QuickBooks Connect I was fortunate enough to have a chat with Ariege Misherghi, the Product Manager for QBO/QBO-A about the issue of 'projects' because at that time there were 'projects' in QBO and 'projects' in QBO-A but they appeared to be two entirely different features. However, after my chat with Ariege, I was able to write an article explaining that the features are not different, they are really 'two sides' of the same project coin.
QBO & QBOA Projects - Two-sides of the Same Coin
Apps are a big part of QBO for most clients and Advisors. So as you might expect, there is an emphasis on Apps in relationship to the features available within QBO-A. Well Insightful Accountant was right there on June 26, 2017 telling you all about the new 'Apps Tab':
Check Out the All New QBOA Navigation Bar Apps Tab
But Intuit also gave QBO-A users more 'control' over their clients' Apps, and Liz covered those details for you in her October 9, 2017 feature:
Total Control with New QBOA Apps Tab
There is more to QBO-A then just the accounting aspects, one feature set is geared toward the subscription model you and your clients use. Once again, Insightful Accountant provided you with that information as soon as it was 'news'. Back in April of 2017 Liz showed you how to move clients to, and remove clients from, Wholesale Billing:
Moving a QBO Client to Wholesale Billing
Then in October of 2017 Liz introduced the new 'Downgrade QBO Subscription Plan' functionality:
New 'Downgrade' QBO Subscription Plan Functionality
and followed that up with her April 9, 2018 article titled,
QBO 'Do it Yourself' Downgrades
These topics are also covered in the new re-certification content.
Another great QBO-A feature that has a corresponding QBO side is the 'My Accountant' Request feature that allows QBO-A users to send a request for information to their clients directly via QBO. Liz covered this feature for you back in April of 2017:
What's Up with QBO's New 'My Accountant' Feature?
I must say that I was very happy with how much of the re-certification content we actually covered as the new features rolled out into the QBO-A product. While you certainly will want to make use of the training materials Intuit provides as you prepare to take the re-certification examination to keep your QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Certification, I felt like it might benefit you to provide a list of the various articles on the related topics so you could get additional content and viewpoints on each feature.
And a special thanks to Liz Scott, our QBO 'go-to' author for all her hard work in preparation of so much of the content noted above.
So, from all of us here at Insightful Accountant, here is to your success on the re-certification examination!
Be on the look out for Part 2 of this article as we cover our related articles for topics in Module 2 of the re-certification training: The Client's QuickBooks Online.
