Cinco de Mayo actually commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862; in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico's Independence Day which is actually September 16th. I mean why have one party when you can have two, right?
