QuickBooks COM Error
Some QuickBooks 2014 users have reported that QuickBooks may suddenly close without reporting any error, or with a COM Error. The Maintenance Release 5 (Beta) version reportedly may contain a potential fix for this problem, which you can test if you enroll. Of course there are other 'fixes' included as part of the R5 Beta which recently was made available.
If you would like to participate in the R5 Beta test for QuickBooks 2014, you can enroll at:

however this is neither a recommendation or request that you do so. If you are a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and you have been dealing with this problem, and you have a 'testing environment' you might want to participate in the Beta test, but my general tendency is to steer average users away from 'beta tests'.
There are some things anyone who wants to participate in the R5 Beta should be aware of:
This is not a test of a patch; rather it is a test of a 'full product' running with R5 beta already incorporated. This means that you must fully uninstall your current QuickBooks 2014 product (Pro, Premier or Enterprise) and then install the R5 Beta product once you are signed-up for the test. Of course you should always 'back-up' a copy of your data for both safety and archive purposes. I would never attempt to run a Beta product along-side another QuickBooks version, or using my actual day-to-day working file.
You should also make certain to only test your 'regular product' type....don't make the mistake of thinking you can try an upgraded version in Beta, and then take your data-file back to your regular version after the Beta test is over. It doesn't work that way.
The "Beta' related uninstall/install will not be the only uninstall and reinstall required of you. When the 'production' version of QuickBooks with the R5 release is made available (which should be sometime in March), you will need to then completely uninstall the R5 Beta product, and download and install the R5 production version of your product (Pro, Premier or Enterprise).
Once again, I am not recommending that anyone necessarily participate in the Beta testing of R5; "the vast majority of users, should in my opinion, WAIT until the production version is available at the earliest". But ProAdvisors supporting QuickBooks may wish to test if they have the capabilities, time and appropriate testing environment.
If you decide to participate in the test, best of luck.......
